I still can't explain Thomas the Tank Engine.

Last night I couldn't sleep, I simply couldn't get my brain to shut up.

At the beginning of the night I had three songs fighting for space in my head.

Be thou my vision ... Easily explained as I am playing it this morning.

The Thomas the Tank engine theme tune ... No easy explanation for this one

And finally, and this is the one that was most persistent, I had Coldplay and Viva La Vida. Again I don't know why this song, beyond being a bit of an earworm it's not one I've ever paid much attention to.

In true ADHD style I had to Google the lyrics, and then listened to at least four different versions.

The song seems to play with the fleeting nature of power and success. The title "Viva la vida" is a Spanish phrase that translates as "long live life", "live the life", or simply "live life". To me it seems to be suggesting that we should focus on living a full life rather than chasing after power and success.

This is nicely reflected in one of the other earworms from last night, Be thou my vision, and particularly verse 4.

Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise

Thou mine inheritance, now and always

Thou and Thou only first in my heart

High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

So for your enjoyment, here is last night's playlist. ...

Although I still can't explain Thomas the Tank engine.
